Hammers are slow, other weopons spike better and you need to give up a shield.
In PVE you need to be giving area of effect dmg or tanking hammer warriors do neither. They need to atleast buff the max dmg to that of the scythe considering how slow they are and they dont hit adjacent enemies.

In properly organised PvP like HA and GvG yeah...
In AB, TA and RA they're still common. My forceful blow hammer warrior works quite well for spiking down MMs and Monks (and generally everything without anti-melee), can't say a +42, +42, +32 and +21 combo with a deepwound and knockdown isn't that bad for shocking people too dumb to move. Specially with BoA syncing nicely with Heavy Blow, you have no adren to lose anyway.

Hammer warriors were never popular in PvE, and are still popular in PvP.

i love using a hammer in pvp, but not pve.
enraging charge+irisistable blow+devestating hammer+crushing blow+heavy blow...that always works great for me, and almost always kills 60 al targets in just that single combo.
in pve, damage comes from all over the place and its better to have a shield. the hammer's strength comes from its ability to knockdown (especially with stoneskin gauntlets), which isnt so usefull in pve where you are constantly changing targets. in pvp though, keeping a target of the floor is a good way to disable them and avoid damage yourself.

No,
hammers are good in PvE also. Just try "Earthshaker" with FGJ/TTL, Flail. You can also bring "Yeti Smash", it isn't that bad. The more foes around you on their knees the more effective your ele's AoE and it even helps to keep aggro on you.
I find that more effective than hitting on a single target only.

I don't recall hammers becoming obsolete. They were never popular in PvE, but were and are still common in PvP. Thumpers, Sins, and Derv have stepped in to fill the melee role in some builds, but this doesn't make the hammer any more obsolete than sword or axe. In fact if a build does have 2 warriors (or even 1), it often includes a hammer. It's the best warrior weapon in Arenas, and it's still used on a good percentage of GvG warriors.

With the new AI i found a hammer guy to be incredibly useful. I used mine throughout nightfall and there were several occasions in which she was pwning faces.
In PvP hammers are always useful imo. From my personal experience hammer warrior > dervish. I raped too much dervishes with my hammer build to make it a coincidence.
